swooshy kneeling lady

swishy swosh
missing figure drawing mucho mas sigh. I feel like I'm the truest with myself when I'm figure drawing, like a massage to the mind or a soak away from troubles. Hopefully I'll have time to go to both sessions at least next week

dank-ass santa cruz chick

no pants on sittin on her porch how could sheeeeeeeee

current mental state

not mad, just tired
though I have been drawing myself a lot like this lately

Sargent but not really

I got a magazine from ImagineFX that came with a set of brushes... and started off with an objective to do a quick Sargent study because of work in the morning. Here I am two hours later. Most of the time went into playing around with the brushes *___* It was fun finding out more about PS's versatility! Anyway the drawing is so off compared to the original painting but I'm glad I got to experiment with this at least.

The sketch I started out with. Thought I would play with it more and have her eyes looking up a bit more instead of down.

This is Gandalf, a new friend I got a while ago until a falcon attacked the cage while I was gone. He was unbelievably pretty and really young still :( his cere was about to turn blue before his death. Rest in peace lil buddy! Reference used is the only photo I have of him.

My sole survivor Junie has survived through many hardships so far (this attack and before that, Percy leaving her in the dust) and I'll post a painting of her soon.

ANI 113B Forest Prelim work

Here's some of the preliminary work I did for our forest project. It's been a while since the project ended but I thought it would be nice to share these. As an artist not too experienced with layout I learned a whooooooole lot from this. The changes that the forest itself went through also kept going even after this prelim work. Here goes:

The thumbnails that started it all! Try to find the one I ended up sticking with.
Black and white comps done for finalizing the layout. I tried to stick to silhouettes so that the shapes would read instantly.

We were then assigned to make a clay maquette to use as reference for our hero tree. I do not have the concept sketches scanned (no scanner at the moment! boo) but I used those as well as several references I collected of cork trees to create the model. For the rest of the set, I used a lamp for the moon, mom's scarf for the grass, a couple of rocks from outside and a deer model from Michael's.

The final one I used as my main reference.

This one doesn't read as well as the first but I thought the rocks looked coooool

It ended up becoming not-deer after all this and much more. You can view its final product here!1 bai

from my prized rock collection of course. pets rocks

No daily painting today but I miss figure drawing mucho mucho mas right now. Here's some figures from my head. I find that doing them digitally gives me a lot more opportunity to explore a pose's design. Hopefully I'll be able to attend a summer session soon.

ya nasty

to be honest I'm really tired but I managed to poop something out. Really need to push dailies since PS workflow is still unfamiliar. I started off with an ambitious still life but it didn't turn out, thus Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri in Blue-ming Fast happened in 30 mins. If I feel like it I'll refine this more (as I type this I keep seeing a million things I want to change ahdfkjashfkjaf) but since it's just a daily I'll probably just let it go and learn from it. That or I'll just paint other bottles in my collection in the morning. They're pretty fun aside from the lettering part. Anywho nice try Lancing come back tomorrow I guess go get your brain back while you sleep ok

Sargent study

Gonna do a thing and try to do one digital painting a day! Here's a master copy of Sargent's Portrait of Colonel Thomas Edwards Vickers, 1 hour. I fiddled around too much with colors I think, also his face is longer in the original. Hopefully I'll speed up the more I do these!
